D.I.Y Hand Sanitizer

With the current shortage of hand sanitizer amid the global COVID-19 outbreak, a high quality D.I.Y hand sanitizer recipe is a great alternative. However, not any recipe will work. Hand sanitizer needs to be made in very specific ratios and concentration in order for it to be effective without hurting the skin of your hands. After some research, we were able to find a great D.I.Y recipe by Dr. Ian Smith, who shared it with viewers of the Rachael Ray Show.

What You Need The list for this recipe is pretty short, but specific. It is important that you find the right items so that your ratios are correct.  Aloe Vera Gel Aloe Vera gel is widely available in grocery and convenience stores.  It is made with Aloe Vera, and serves as a moisturizer in the hand sanitizer. This is what will keep the high alcohol content from hurting your skin. Essential Oil Though this is optional, including a few drops of bacteria fighting essential oils (like lavender or eucalyptus) will not only boost the germ fighting power of your sanitizer, but will also add a nice smell.  Empty Container & Closure A clean, empty container along with a cap will allow you to transport your homemade sanitizer on the go if needed. Instructions Making this sanitizer is pretty simple. 1. Mix ⅔ cups of your rubbing alcohol with ⅓ cups of aloe vera gel 2. Add a few drops of your essential oil 3. Transfer into the container of your choice   We hope this simple, but effective hand sanitizer recipe helps you stay safe and healthy. It is important to note that the best way to protect yourself during this time is to wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Hand Sanitizer is a great quick and easy alternative, but we encourage you to wash your hands when you can.
